BrewDog DogTap: beers and burgers in Mariendorf

Fotostrasse goes further away from the city center in this week of the #52weeksofburgers challenge, to have some burgers at BrewDog Mariendorf. BrewDog is a Scottish craft beer brand that has venues all over the world, and since we are beer drinkers (and official burger eaters), we had to give it a try.

There is a reason why this place is not so central; it is simply massive, easily one of the biggest venues I’ve been to here in Berlin. It is amazingly decorated, you can see the brewery in the back, a beer museum, many arcade machines and a shop with some merch.

The place is heavily used for larger events, so even though it is massive, don’t forget to make reservations. The staff is very lovely, and this is an excellent place for the non-German speaker.

Felipe ordered the Chipotle Chorizo (€12) with a 200gr patty, chorizo, padrón peppers, and chipotle mayo in a brioche bun. This was an exciting burger; the chorizo makes a huge difference when it comes to taste and texture, like an intensified chewy bacon. The sauce is balanced, and you can still taste the meat, and the buns are slightly sweet and tasted quite fresh.

I got the Patriot (€10) with the same 200gr patty, bacon, cheddar, pickles, onions, salad, and BBQ sauce in the same brioche bun. It was a bit disappointing for me, although the ingredients are fantastic and the meat tastes and feels like real meat should, the barbecue sauce was so overwhelming that I couldn’t taste much besides that.

Also, I got to try a few of the others that my friends got, and my favorite was definitely the Cluck Norris (€12) with buttermilk deep-fried chicken, avocado, red onions, cajun mayo, and coriander. It tasted so fresh, the chicken was crunchy and juicy, and the spices were excellent!

We got the Sweet Potato Fries (€3,25) that were just perfect and the Truffle Mushrooms (€3) that were a bit bland. We got the Walnut Brownie (€7), and it was warm and rich, but we don’t think the popcorn on the top makes any sense.

They have all sorts of soft drinks besides the (almost) overwhelming amount of beers on tap and bottled. It is almost surprising how tasty the variety of food is in a place that is dedicated to drinking, huge props for that.

Overall, this is not a place you go to have a quick bite, this is awesome to bring the beer lovers you know for a special occasion and spend the day, but the focus here really isn’t the food that is good, but not life-changing considering the price. It loses a few points for being on the expensive side, but everything in this venue makes it clear it is not an everyday thing. We rate this a 7/10.

If you need a place for a big group, a specific event, or to take that fancy beer lover friend, this is for you. The strength here are the beers not so much the food, but it is quite good as well. Keep in mind it is really on the expensive side.
