The Canon EOS M3 is a camera designed to inspire you to go out and take pictures. It comes with a stylish, elegant and compact design and it is a pleasure to operate in every way possible. The images it capture are as good as it gets and it might be the perfect camera to keep in your bag when you’re trying to capture the city you live or traveling around.
Fotostrasse received a Canon EOS M3 from Canon and we took it around Berlin to see what this camera could do. And we were really happy with what it came out of it. Below you can read what we thought about this great mirrorless camera.
I took this camera out into Berlin more times than I did with the Canon G3X and I have to say that this camera was beyond what I was expecting. Like I said before, I’m not a professional photographer but this camera is not a professional one so this is why I took charge of it and decided to give my own voice to this review.
Great design and high quality pictures with a battery that lasts and interchangeable lens.
Sometimes it feels slow and you might think it’s pricey when compared to other brands.
Beautiful camera that takes high quality pictures with an average set of features that, sometimes, feels too slow for the price you payed.
So, let’s start by talking about the Canon EOS M3 performance.
When I first took the Canon EOS M3 out into Berlin, I felt like this was the best camera I ever used. It was speedy, had a lot of picture controls and it could fit inside the pocket of my jacket. At first, this camera was amazing but after a few days I started seeing some problems with it.
The main one for me was how long it takes to focus and take a picture. It didn’t happen that often but I remember taking the camera out at the U-Bahn Alexanderplatz while walking and tried to take some street photography pictures and I couldn’t. I couldn’t because the camera tale too long to refocus and to write to the card. I don’t do continuous shooting all the time but I felt like this was such a simple thing to do and I still don’t understand really well why it doesn’t work.
Besides that, I would say that the Canon EOS M3 is one of the best cameras I ever hold in my hands.
Now, lets talk about image quality.
Every picture on this article review was taken using the Canon EOS M3 and image quality is as good as it can be. JPGs look clean and sharp until ISO 800. When it comes to colors, saturation levels is good even though it felt like the pictures are a little bit purple. Nothing big but you can see it better on the unedited pictures below.
Canon EOS M3 Design and Features
When it comes to design, there is nothing I can complain about the Canon EOS M3. The body is made os a magnesium-alloy/stainless-steel that doesn’t feel cheap like a plastic body and it doesn’t creak when you grip it tightly. And the vulcanized rubber makes everything feel even more comfortable.
If you’re familiar with Canon’s menu system, you won’t find any problem to navigate through all the options this camera will give you. But, if you want something different, you can use the touchscreen that offers all the functionality possible.
One of my favorite Canon EOS M3 features is the tilting screen and that comes really handy when you want to try something a little bit different. The screen can go up to 45 degrees downward for holding the camera up, something useful for street photography. And, if you want to raise your selfie game, the screen can rotate 180 degrees so you will be able to see yourself on it without any problem.
Summing Up my Experience with the Canon EOS M3
The Canon EOS M3 is a competent player when it comes to the mirrorless game. If you are looking for a interchangeable-lens camera that is better than a point and shoot and smaller than an entry level dSLR, this might be the camera for you. At least, I have to say that I loved the time I had the camera with me. I’m pretty sure you will love it as well.
