East Berlin is a place that doesn’t exist anymore and, maybe, this is why we want to see it in every possible way. This is why we are posting this video we found that shows how East Berlin used to look like back in 1980.
The fact that we never walked through the streets of East Berlin makes this video even more nostalgic. It is a city that doesn’t exist anymore. Capital of a country that used to exist a few blocks away from where we are here in Neukölln. We have the same feeling towards the Berlin Wall, how West Berlin used to be and how Berlin used to look like after the reunification.

East Berlin, a City that doesn’t existe anymore.
But this is a propaganda video from East Berlin that shows exactly what the government wants to show. Still, it is pretty weird to see how the streets we walk around everyday used to be 30 years ago. The places are the same but they look so different.
If you ignore the way the video is narrated with all the glorifications and exaggerations, this video becomes a great historical document about a city that lives in the memories of those that used to live there.
