If you’re looking for an old school backpacker vibe, Hostel Ani & Haakie is the perfect place for you. There, the idea is to have a sense of community, a feeling that you might be traveling by yourself, but you’re not alone while you explore Rotterdam.
Hostel Ani & Haakien is located a few blocks away from Rotterdam Central Train Station, and we walked from one place to the other in less than 20 minutes, while we took pictures of the fantastic architecture of this Dutch city.
We stayed a couple of nights at the Hostel Ani & Haakien, and it was undoubtedly one of the most comfortable hostels we ever visited. Their beds were amazingly comfortable, but this wasn’t the reason why we liked this place so much. It started with the friendly people at the reception that introduced us to everything that we could know about Rotterdam.
We were in Rotterdam for the Film Festival, and we had some questions about the event, about how to get to places and some food questions related to our 52 Weeks of Burgers challenge. It was in Rotterdam that we found the best burger of January and we can partially blame them for this. They helped us with everything, and their tips were exactly what we were looking for.
Also, Hostel Ani & Haakien won our hearts when we were introduced to Suzy La Cubanita. Suzy is a cat that lives inside one of the closets in the common room, and she is more than amazing. We wanted to take her home with us, but we heard that she is better as a solitary cat and we believed in it.
Let’s get back to talk the Hostel Ani & Haakien
First, let’s talk about the bedroom. We spent some nights in a 6 people dormitory that was pretty basic but had all the comfort that we needed. There were lockers for us with power outlets inside, something that we had never seen before. The beds had clean sheets, outlets close by where we could charge our phones and cameras, and the mattresses were perfect! It was even a little bit difficult to wake up since we just wanted to spend more time in bed.
But the Hostel Ani & Haakien is more than the rooms. The highlight of the place is the common room where you can meet new people and like-minded travelers. We met some people there during our time waiting to get the train to The Hague. They have some great beers for sale and Suzy was there with us. It was perfect! Another highlight of Hostel Ani & Haakien is its location. The hostel is hidden in plain sight close to everything that you want to see in Rotterdam. But you will be able to enjoy the city and sleep in peace since there wasn’t any noise in the hostel. Close by, you have design shops, cool bars, and great coffee shops. But at Hostel Ani & Haakien you can relax and rest for your next adventure.
If you never thought about visiting Rotterdam, you should change your mind and use the city and a hub for day trips in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is just 40 minutes away, The Hague is less than 20 minutes away, and Utrecht is something like 40 minutes away by train. So, if you ever wanted to explore the Netherlands but didn’t want to stay in Amsterdam, Hostel Ani & Haakien might be the perfect place for you. We know it was the ideal place for us and that we will be back soon!
