Why Sirmione should be on your travel bucket list
Discovering yet another astonishing destination in ItalyItalian lakes are famous the world over. And since we all love to travel to beautiful places, let me show you one of the best well-kept secrets of Italy’s largest lake. Let me show you the medieval city of Sirmione.
Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, part of it is located in the region of Lombardy. For those not familiar with where is where in Italy, Lombardy’s capital is Milan. For those willing it to find on a map, Garda is the one that is shaped like a penis. HEH
Tell me more about those lakes in Italy
Lake Garda was our lake of choice this time. We’ve been to Lake Como and Grotte di Catullo back in summer 2015, remember? If not, I strongly suggest you check the posts. Sirmione was one of the jewels of our previous Italian trip, and we decided it was more than time to come back and see this piece of heaven over the autumn colors this time.
Now show me Sirmione and convince me to book my flight
Since 2018 we’re bigger and better than 2015, this time we’ll show you how great Sirmione is with photos and videos.
We visited the Roman ruins again. We ate in one of the Michelin Stars restaurants in Sirmione because we’re fancy bloggers and we like to make people jealous. We walked up and down the city, we took photos of teenager swans, we gave food to seagulls even though we know we shouldn’t (#noregrets), we went on a boat ride around Garda, we put our logo on the prettiest part of Sirmione and much more.
We will list here some of the highlights of our lovely stay in Sirmione, and I hope you all find it interesting and informative. I would also like to remind you all that you can leave me a comment here or on our Facebook group with any questions you might have, and I’ll try my best to answer you.
Where to stay in Sirmione
Of course, you can have endless possibilities in Sirmione. We stayed in the Hotel Catullo, and we cannot complain. The rooms were clean, the location was fantastic and the food and view impeccable.
The only thing is that the wifi wasn’t that strong in the room, and there were no electric outlets near the bed, but we blame this on the old construction. This hotel is traditional, and the building is old and super charming. If you’re familiar with traveling around Europe you’re more than used to giving up some comforts you find in new hotels for the coziness and the unique experience that it is to stay in a luxury and classical hotel.
You can check the prices and disponibility of Hotel Catullo here.
Being fancy and giving yourself a well-deserved treat in La Speranzina
La Speranzina will not just win you over the presentation and quality of their food or the skills of its chef, this Michelin star restaurant will be forever in your heart because of how beautiful the view you’ll have while you drink your wine or eat your delightful meal. You can even stay a few nights at the hotel above the restaurant if you want.
This place offers an excellent selection of wine, so make sure to study a little bit the wines in the Veneto and Lombardia region to fake being a connoisseur to the waiter. I know I didn’t do my homework and he crushed me with knowledge and kindness, but in the very end, I was floating to heaven with how they can match the food and the wine with such grace.
Sirmione in a nutshell so we can end this post and let you go to the airport
Sirmione is one of the most beautiful towns ever. Not just in Italy. It can be quite expensive, but of course, you can do it on a budget. When there’s a will, there’s a way. Just by choosing months like November instead of July, you will save quite a lot. And this place is as beautiful in full green as it is in a more orange tone.
Please leave me a comment if you’re planning to visit but you are there mainly for the photo spots and not so much for the luxurious restaurants and expensive boat rides. Even though I strongly suggest you save some money and experience the full Sirmione because you won’t regret.
Sirmione
Being completely honest, even though Sirmione for some is a great day trip from Milan, I would stay 1 or 2 nights. It is quite small, but there are loads of things to see, little streets to get lost in and activities.
