Where to Eat in Berlin: Sudaka

Sudaka is a south american restaurant located in a street filled with trees in Schöneberg. As a brazilian, I can say that they are the only place I would recommend to my friends if they want to try a little bit of what is the Brazilian cuisine. If you happened to stumble upon this place while walking in the neighborhood, I doubt you would image what happens inside the place. But I am pretty sure the amazing smell of food would grab your attention. Amazing food is what you get when you visit Sudaka, my favorite restaurant in Berlin.

The best steak we ever had in Berlin

The first time I was there was almost an year ago and I still remember how great it was. It was Marcela’s birthday and we wanted to go somewhere special and Sudaka was our choice. And what a great decision this was! I can easily say that they had the best steak I ever had while living in Berlin. They do steaks in the South American way that is so close to my heart. Juicy, tender and rare like it should be. Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil have this special way of cooking meat and Sudaka follows those rules to perfection.

But Sudaka is not only for steak lovers. Since the restaurant is specialized in South American food, you’re also going to find ceviches, pastéis, coxinhas and empanadas. Sometimes this is a problem for me since I want to try a piece of everything they have on the menu. You can see the behaviour easily on the pictures featured on this post.

Every time that I go there, I try a different empanada and they are always great. I never tried the ceviches but I’m pretty sure they’re delicious. One day I’ll go there just to try them out. Another thing I really like about Sudaka is how they have this traditional side dishes that used to be my day to day meals when I was still living in Brazil. Black beans with rice and fried potatoes, this is what we eat in Brazil and you can try this at Sudaka and I know you will love it.

Going back to steaks, if you need my advice about which ones you should try, I have to tell you to try Picanha and Ojo de Bife. Picanha is a special cut of meat that we have in Brazil that is really tender and tastes great. If you have been to Brazil before and had what we call churrasco, I’m pretty sure you already tried it. Ojo de Bife is what Argentinian people call the soft spot inside the picanha’s cut. In Argentina, they have different ways of cutting meat and I wish I could explain to you how they did it but the only thing I can say is that it tastes great. And Sudaka has all this South American cuts of meat and you should try it without even thinking twice.

To end this post, I can honestly say that Sudaka is the only place I could send anyone that wants to try South American and Brazilian food. And they have the best steak I ever had while living in Berlin. If you don’t believe in what you’re reading, just go there and try it out. I bet you are going to agree with me.
