Next to the Lviv town hall and the many small streets around it, there is something unusual hidden in a courtyard. The shape is almost peculiar, and it’s a bit hard to understand what you’re looking at until you get really close. This is where you will find the Beer Belly of Ukraine.

When we reached this unusual statue, we were looking for a place to store our bags. A tour guide told us to get in one direction, and, by accident, we stumble upon what we believe is one of the weirdest things we ever found in any street.




Looking close, you can see that this brass statue is a weirdly shaped belly. But, for some, it might seem like something else. You know what we mean here. We are not sure who was the model for this work of art, but we know that we had to take a selfie there while we shared our own bellies. You need to do it as well whenever you visit Lviv.

Around the brass beer belly, there is a text in Ukrainian that reads something like королівська Пивоварня пивний пуп україни. This can be roughly translated as Royal Brewery beer belly of Ukraine. This means that this is a piece of advertising for a local brewery on the other side of the courtyard. Korolivska Brewery is the name of this local royal brewery. We are sorry to say that we didn’t have any beers there since they were closed when we found the Beer Belly of Ukraine.

The next time we are in Lviv, we know we have to spend some time there and ask if the belly statue model was a loyal customer or something else. Maybe we can even become a reference for a future upgrade to it. Who knows?

The Beer Belly of Ukraine is the rough translation we were told during our days in Lviv, one of the coolest cities we have ever been to. You can find it almost hidden in a courtyard south of the Lviv town hall, or you can just follow the map below to make things easier for you.
